Obtaining an Educator Card is easy!
Simply ask a Children’s Librarian to add an Educator Card to your personal library account. If you don’t already have a personal account with us, bring a state-issued photo ID and a piece of mail which contains your name and current address to apply

Q: How much does an educator card cost?
A: It’s free!
Q: Do I have to live or work in Dover?
A: No, any educator may apply, regardless of residency
Q:Will my Educator Card work at other libraries?
A: No, it may only be used at Dover Public Library
Q: May I request items from other libraries with my Educator Card?
A: Yes, you may Inter-Library Loan books for 4 weeks with no renewals. Overdue items are $.50/day and are not eligible for Forgiveness
Who is eligible?
Educator cards are open to anyone who teaches children:
- Public School Teachers
- Private School Teachers
- Homeschool Teachers
- Students Earning a Teaching Degree
- Daycare/Preschool Teachers
Benefits
- Borrowing books up to 16 weeks(4 weeks with 3 renewals)*
- Lost or damaged book fine forgiveness for up to 2 children’s books per year**
- Request & Pick Up Service: materials may be requested based on subject, age of students, material type, and/or AR level. (MUST be requested 1-2 weeks in advance).
- Our request form is available online (you can also use this form to request a Storytime classroom visit for Grades PreK-2!)
*if an item checked out to you is placed on hold by another patron, you will need to return it within 1 week
**Homeschool teachers will be responsible for all lost and damaged materials due to use in personal residence
