It is the mission of the Volunteen program to provide students with valuable work experience and a connection to the community. 

The Volunteen program at Dover Public Library offers teens ages 13 and up the opportunity to earn community service hours and gain valuable job experience. Seven positions are offered, each focusing on a specific area of interest.

Archives Assistant

Helps the Local History Librarian develop collections, preserve materials, and provide support for patrons.

Supervised by: Local History Librarian Kim Jurkovich

Friend of the Book Cellar

Helps with the sale and organization of new and gently used books in the Friends of the Library Book Cellar Bookshop, located in the library’s lower level.

Supervised by: Book Cellar Bookshop Manager Vicky Wittkop and Library Director Jim Gill

Library Apprentice

Help with a variety of library services, including shelving materials, processing materials, programs, and more.

Supervised by: Adult Services Manager Mallory Thompson or Children’s Department Manager Jen Gardner

Reading Buddy

Gets paired with a young reader to help develop the child’s confidence and reading skills.

Supervised by: Children’s Department Manager Jen Gardner

Storywalk® Assistant

Helps maintain the Storywalk® at Dover City Park.

Supervised by: Children’s Department Manager Jen Gardner

Teen Maker

Helps run the Maker Lounge, the library’s mini MakerSpace, completes training on all equipment in the Maker Lounge and helps patrons and the library with various projects.

Supervised by: Teen Services Manager Liz Strauss

Tornado Alley Senior Editor

Helps put together Tornado Alley, the Teen Literary Magazine of Dover High School and Dover Public Library.

Supervised by: Teen Services Manager Liz Strauss
