Civil War Roundtable

Ever since Appomattox, historians, military tacticians, and amateur scholars have been fascinated by the Civil War. Join the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Roundtable on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. Each month, a different speaker will provide an engaging and informative look at a particular aspect of the War Between the States. All welcome!

September 12:  Our season opens with a program from Thomas L. Vince, archivist and historian for the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.   Mr. Vince was also the director of the Hudson Library and Historical Society for nearly 30 years.  His many professional and community activities include being the former President of the Cuyahoga Valley Civil War Round Table, member of the Ohio Bicentennial Civil War Advisory Council and Commentator for “Moment in History” on Hudson Cable TV.  His program is entitled “The Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Dec 7, 1862”.  Some of Quantrill’s raiders were present during this engagement but I think that Quantrill himself was in Richmond Virginia seeking a commission in the Confederate Army.

October 10: Once again we will feature round table member Nic Affolter, with a program concerning the Battle of Gettysburg.  With his vast knowledge about the battle and the quality of his previous programs, NIc always brings a unique and fascinating look at this much discussed decisive battle of the Civil War.

November 14:  Program remains open
